Master cylinders generally leak if either the cylinder bore is corroded or the seal is worn/hardened. The leak will be evident at the point where the piston is visible. Fluid or dried fluid may be under the boot. Not sure if Yamaha still makes seal kits for these but good MC's (probably some new MCs') are fairly easy to find. Pretty sure the MC is the same as for the FZR1000 and, as it is not part of the switchgear, aftermarket options are viable also.
