Tyres in 2018

Postby Haygood » Fri Oct 12, 2018 6:31 am

Hello, all. I'm just looking for an update on what model and size tires you fine folks are running on your GTSs these days. The other posts on the topic are from several years ago.

In those older posts, someone mentioned using tires as big as 190 in the rear. Will the rear fender still fit over that? No mention was made of that, so I assume so.

Mine has currently Metzeler Z6 in size 120/70 ZR17 and 180/55 ZR17. Next set will be Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT or the latest 5.

Hello Haygood
Yes your assumption is correct, you can run on a 190 profile tyre on the rear with the original hugger fitted.
I love the summer, it is my favourite day of the year!

I have 2 GTS, on the one I drive the Pirelli Angel GT on the other GTS the Metzeler Roadtec 01. My experience: The Angel GT works on the GTS much better than the Metzeler Roadtec. The Pirelli is stable in every driving position, the Metzeler Roadtec smears especially in the back something away. Why no idea. At the front, the Metzeler is a great tire, but not at the back. Due to the profile of the Metzeler he starts to sing after a certain mileage.
So for me, the Pirelli Angel GT 120/70 and 180/55 remains the best choice for the GTS, both for heat curves and for the long haul.

Vielen Dank, Arno.

(Hopefully my German isn't too much worse than Google's, though I did need its help on a few words. I need the practice, since I haven't used any German in at least 15 years.)
