No European GTS meet 2010 for me!

Postby rooyenan » Wed Aug 18, 2010 8:14 pm

I regret to have to inform you all: I won't be at the meet in August..

Last sunday I had a track training day..
A lot of fun, but than the accident devil had it's chance..
Somehow I picked up a metal screw with my front tyre, which was than launched into my chain.. As this contraption followed with my chain to the rear sprocket, my rear wheel suddenly blocked completely..

Result: a 10 meter long skid mark, some damage on the bike and 2 broken ribs...
I won't be recovered enough in two weeks time to be able to travel the 500+ kilometers to the meet in Germany!

Hopefully I'll be there next year again!!

Sorry to hear that, hopefully you and the bike will mend quickly.
I can't go to the treffen either as apparently I have become indispensable at work that weekend.

Gordon Bennett - get a lottery ticket quick! What must be the chances of getting a flat front tyre and a broken chain/locked wheel all in a moment? Guinness may well be interested in this.
All the best with the ribs, and I won't post any jokes for a while in case they make you laugh. Unlikely, I know...

Yamerama: congrats!

It was no flat tire though, he probably drove over the screw, which launched it in his chain. What are the odds..

Some pics from before the crash:

And this was me:

Ansco has the pictures i took from the crashed bike last wednesday. I've got the damaged screw at home, will take a picture tonight.

Sorry to hear about this Ansco, maybe the ribs will cure the smoking habit, so possibly there is some good from this :D

I have heard of this before, but its likely the "screw" fell off somebodys bike? I reckon you were very unlucky that the screw didn't break. I had an old XT600 lock up its back wheel at 70mph joining the motorway some years back. The gearbox seized, but I was able to climb over the front wheel and clutch in, althougH it didn't make anu difference.

Get well soon, in two weeks the bones should be healing good.
I've just started riding the GTS again, and it'll be changing

I just don't have any recollection of the accident itself!!
My memory has a 20 minute gap in it...

I just don't think it's wise to get on the bike too soon..

There will be other GTS meets in the following years.

All the plastics have been repaired, only some spraying needed..
Got a new chain and sprocket set. Tomorrow mounting those and I'll be able to get back on!

The ribs have mended

Now the only thing needed is a new job (which I could have within a couple of weeks!!)

Hope it all works out for you, being "jobless" and wanting work is not good for the soul.
