High Visibility

Postby stevewp » Sat Apr 29, 2006 7:38 am

Yes, I know my lovely flourescent jacket and reflective strips down my panniers are a long-standing joke, but the fact is, they get me seen.

I expect many of us ride with headlights on, so it's clearly in our minds.

I bought my tape from a company called Bike Seen, who's service was excellent (they threw in some red and some white reflective for free!) and the prices were good.

If you take a look at their website, they've got all manner of high-vis stuff at decent prices. Put it this way - I can get the reflective tapes etc a trade price, but you have to buy MASSES of the stuff, so I plumbed to pay consumer price, which still struck me as VERY reasonable.

I personally think that when you're in high traffic situations and also at night, high vis clothing/detailing is absolutely the right way to go. Not only does it (hopefully) stop you getting knocked off, but people also get out of your way far quicker, meaning you get home for your dinner earlier!!!

Here endeth the lesson.

Hi,unless i've got my rucksack on i never go out without my Sam Brown belt on,don't care what i look like as long as people see me,i can't understand why riders, even magazine writers take the mickey out of them, riders who say they would not be wear them(vanity!!) usually ride in fancy leathers looking like liquorice allsorts anyway. Just got a Shoie helmet which is mainly white with graphics and its surpising how many people have said how visible it is.Regards Ryszard....

Rucksacks

Postby 24c » Fri May 19, 2006 5:59 am

I used to use a small Karrimor rucksack, until somebody pointed out the perils (back injuries in accidents) of carrying wine bottles and other hard stuff in them

That's why I use a cargo net or panniers mainly, otherwise I just use a carrier bag on the end of the handlebars when shopping
I've just started riding the GTS again, and it'll be changing

I have my Fluor jacket just when it rains, (as you can see on the pics fro our scottland tour) So that I'm vissible when the vissabillity is less.

During the sun I have my jacket on with the jeansvest and that stands out for itself.

When my daughter is on the back she wairs a fluor stripe cross over her body so they know there is a child as passanger.

There is no price on safety.
See Ya...Rob

I want to die like my grandfather... in his sleep,
Not screaming... like his passenger...
