Hi all, I can't see a post relating to basic servicing of the engine... mine is approaching 40,000 miles and runs perfectly fine, with just the usual oil consumption issue (I always carry a spare litre with me). I always do oil, filters, plugs, chain & sprocket changes myself. Should I be concerned about valve clearances, or leave well enough alone? Cheers!
Valve clearances should be ok, assuming that early services were previously done and nothing amiss was found. I have stripped an engine with 130,000+ km on the clock and found only 3 of the 20 valve clearances out of spec and they were only marginally out and I needn't have bothered re-shimming them, but as I had the engine stripped I did it.
