Failure to start - runs lumpy at low rpm - stalls at low rpm. Ideas?

Postby Mark Henry » Sun Jan 28, 2018 5:24 pm

Guys recently I've had issues with starting. Bike starts & runs but once hot runs lumpy at low rpm with the possibility of stalling - when it does stall it won't start - all lights are on & the battery is good - if lucky it starts again but runs lumpy.

I'm thinking coils?

Any ideas?

Hello Mark

First of all relating to the difficulty starting, i would check the starter solenoid these are prone to corrosion over time on the
terminals. As for the rough idling i would check the HT leads from the plug caps you can unscrew these and check
the copper strands inside have not broken up on the ends or corroded, also dirty plugs caps can lead to the arc tracking on the outside of the body :?:
I love the summer, it is my favourite day of the year!
