MPG

Two weeks into GTS ownership, and I'm pleasantly suprised at the range and consumption.

Having brimmed the tank, despite the stupid flappy bit, I managed 192 miles before refilling, which equated to 53mpg.

All the reports I've read reckon 35 was more likely, and the tank so small I'd be refilling every 150 miles.

My commute is 40 miles, about 50:50 town and motorway (Gloucester to Bristol) and the bike is proving perfect for the job.

Welcome to the club Daveett.

Tank capacity is one of the bike's negative points :!: myself and some other members of the club cut out the filler gate to improve on the tank capacity.
I love the summer, it is my favourite day of the year!

It's definitely on the list of improvements. Can't complain at a 200 mile range though, it's in line with pretty much every other sports tourer I've had or ridden.

I've noticed the GTS' fuel economy is VERY susceptible to speed. Cruising at 60-70 mph I can get 55 mpg (US) but at higher speeds it drops off pretty quickly - more so than other bikes I own. If I'm doing 75+, the GTS is probably slightly worse than my R1100GS or KTM1290SA despite being lower and more streamlined.

I suspect 15 years of progress on fuel injection would improve things, but it's pretty impressive considering. My journeys are half motorway and half town, so I'm satisfied with what I'm getting.

My 800 GS returns 65 MPG on the same run...
