120/70

Fast-boy tyres (as Nick likes to call them) or sensible sports tourers? What's your recommendation?

120/70

Postby Mr Wog » Tue Mar 28, 2006 3:17 pm

Question for humans running a 120/70 up front.
While mounting a 120/70 on my GTS, it looks like it does not fit properly.
It seated, but shows quite a bt of the wheel lip. So my question is !
Is this normal for the 170 to fit like this ? I know it is narrower that a 160
it just looks funky.
Paul.

I have 120 up front and a 180 on the rear.

And I must say i like it best this way. I had the 170 on the rear at first but with the 180 its a bit straigter on the way and deffently looks better.

My bad

Postby Mr Wog » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:57 pm

I meant it fits the front rim with much of the lip showing.
(the 70 profile)
I was talking about the difference between the 60 profile and the 70 profile up front. (bad typing with 160)
It just seems that to much of the rim is showing at the lip, I think the 60 spreads out on the rim more. Can you see much of the edge of your rim ? I have the 180 on the rear also.

Image:D :D Paul out of interest what make do you have on...

I think most of the UK Group ride the non spec/original tyre... on front and the 180/55 seems favourite for the back. Have just looked at my front..yes there is a bit more rim showing than you would expect...but have never noticed till your comment..the rear 180/55 is a snugger fit on the rim.

I think market forces are going to push you away from the standard spec front as you like a spirited ride ,,,, so that leaves you with not much choice of manufacture...I've just bought a pair of Pirelli Diablo Strada..half sport half street...softer than my Contiforce but ..oh bollox it's in the tyre post I made earlier..

the 60 or 70 profile on the front should not make any diffrence to the width of the tyre, its the aspect ratio of the tyre i.e. 60 being that the side wall height is 60 percente of the width of the tyre so if anything the 70 would look a little fatter as the wall is slightly higher and thus squashing down a little easier.

thats mmore than one pearl of wisdom today going to have to stop, the single cell is cunvulsing!!

Bloody hell Dave, that was a bit sensible for you!!

I agree that the rim does appear to show quite a bit, but I can't honestly remember what it was like with the 130 on (was absolutely years ago!)

I just don't let it worry me ;)
