Re: Rear brake disk

Pretty sure FJ1100/1200 front disks were larger diameter. They definitely have different attachment. Later 1200 front disks were not radially vented either.

I have scans of quite a few articles - some I found on-line, some I scanned myself. PM me if you still need anything and I'll send you what I have.

Re: Anyone tempted by Yamaha's NEW revolutionary front end?

Looks very cool - I'll bet it's very heavy. Nowhere near as cool, light or effective as the RADD front end.

Re: GTS1000 for sale in Louisiana - Fly and ride!

Well, the affair is over (for now.) My GTS has been sold. I've been a GTS owner for 6-1/2 years and about 6000 miles but the last year we only did around 100 miles. There were several reasons for the low mileage, chiefly a new bike that checks all the boxes for both dualsport/adventure riding and sp...

Re: Rear brake disk

Rear disk from the old V-max is the same as is one of the big Yamaha cruiser/tourers. Pretty easy to find on eBay or similar once you know all the cross-overs

Re: Starting full rebuild of a 93 GTS1000

Auto choke? Not on a FI bike. My suggestion would be to put 20 or 30 miles on it. Get the fuel flowing, get the engine bedded in. When I got my GTS, it had not been ridden for some time and the running improved significantly over the first 20 miles, then again as I worked my way through the second t...

Re: Engine Flush

If someone has previously neglected the bike, omitted or greatly delayed oil changes and/or the bike has sat for a very long time with very old oil in it, you might have some sludge built up here and there. The best "fix" for that would be to run the bike with clean oil for, say, 500 miles...

Re: GTS1000 for sale in Louisiana - Fly and ride!

Bike is still for sale. Price reduced to $4450. Sincere apologies for dead Photobucket links. Contact me at ptu_1 at yah00 d0tc0m and I will email photos. If rain holds off (not that I mid riding in rain but I hate cleaning all the nooks and crannies on the bike afterwards), I'll take the old girl f...

Re: leaking front master cylinder

Master cylinders generally leak if either the cylinder bore is corroded or the seal is worn/hardened. The leak will be evident at the point where the piston is visible. Fluid or dried fluid may be under the boot. Not sure if Yamaha still makes seal kits for these but good MC's (probably some new MCs...

Re: Starting full rebuild of a 93 GTS1000

The other way to check/fine tune the adjustment would be more empirical ...seeing whether the bike tracks straight hands-off.

Re: MPG

I've noticed the GTS' fuel economy is VERY susceptible to speed. Cruising at 60-70 mph I can get 55 mpg (US) but at higher speeds it drops off pretty quickly - more so than other bikes I own. If I'm doing 75+, the GTS is probably slightly worse than my R1100GS or KTM1290SA despite being lower and mo...

Re: GTS1000 for sale in Louisiana - Fly and ride!

I realize this is probably a bad place to post a GTS for sale as we mostly already have one. Anyhow, mine is still available. I just sold my R1100GS so no urgency - but the GTS is not getting as much use as it used to and I'd love to see her go to an appreciative new owner. She has nearly new sports...
