|
I wasn't looking for it but a few days ago I was doing *whaterver* in my front yard and some dude parked his car in front of my house and went straight in my garage.
I asked him"excuse me, I can help you?"
He answers me "Nope, I'm just looking"
I was ready to say to him my garage is not a museum, thinkin' he was some kind of freak (what he probably is ) when he explained me that he used to have plenty of motorcycles and he just started to talk about his (not) extroardinary life.
A few days later someone was ringing at the door, and it was the same guy.
He told me about a member of his motorcycle club that was selling "the same prototype as yours" and than he was asking… 1200€ (1500 US $ / 1000 £) for it.
I thought he didn't understood how much is friend was asking but, hey, gives him my phone number(just in case) and "let's see what will happens"...
Saturday, the member calls me, I went to see his motor bike: Yamaha GTS ABS, saddlebags, new tires, heating handles … but 88.000km .
I chat with the guy who ended saying me that if I give him 750€ (963 US $ / 632 £) it is OK
750€ for a complete GTS, engine is OK, brand new tires, ABS OK, Yamaha original saddlebags , etc… I said yes

The bike spit oils by every holes, I've just lost 2 wheels on my way bak home, and there is no tank !
Just joking... The ride's as smooth as it can be. No scarying noises, no smoke, must just change the braking fluid and voilà !
Ho, I've forgot : there's a handlebar raiser on this bike... wich I doesn't like.
Anybody interested in a swap change ? _________________ If loud pipes save lives, just imagine what a brain can do... |

Well done! I too have been on the aquisition trail. I bought an excellent GTS unseen, which was to include a rolling chassis and a few bits. I know the seller and was sure he wouldn't 'stitch me up' - not that sort. Imagine my surprise when this 'rolling chassis' is actually a well worn, high mileage but complete bike! And the 'few bits' turned out to be half a van load!
After a rule change, my planned pre '89 race bike Exup seemed a bit pointless, but I have all the bits ready. So, ebay provided me with a GTS, no bodywork and high mileage too for a reasonable price. So, plan B is to build a 1040 Pete Beale built, Cosworth flowed, balanced motor into this chassis. I have an Akrapovic system, flatslides, and a pair of GTS Ohlins. If anyone has any Airtech race bodywork I would be very interested btw. |

He had a bad run in 2009 with rods coming through blocks...
Sounds like a nice combo though.
PS Been on the acquisition trail too, now got a revised Plan A, and a new Plan B... just don't tell the missus _________________ The MicroSquirts are working on the GTS1000 and Thunderace EFI project |

Seriously, he's well respected, but I wish my guy would pick up the phone. Both of them know Steve Linsdale.
Then there's Bob Farnham, just depends where you live. Up our way is Tony Scott & Frank Wrathall. _________________ The MicroSquirts are working on the GTS1000 and Thunderace EFI project |

24c I have a Tony Scott R1 stocksport motor - having stripped it and looked inside the attention to detail is impressive. Not 100% convinced it's within the spirit of what was then stocksport....
Started knocking after a rebuild after I suspect some poor advice on big end clearances on the dyno. Languished under my bench ever since. I should really have a look but riding the long bang new R1 makes it feel slightly pointless.
Frank Wrathall's place is an experience. Beautiful farm stone built buildings, full of character, filled with clinically clean workshops and machine rooms.
PS Lets keep the '09 R1 con rod problem to ourselves eh - my living is at stake....Actually it is anyway right now, weathers been great, world cup's over, where's the customers???? |

Delighted to report the customers have been back in abundance, and I have now deleted the Samaritans number from speed dial.
However, bit puzzled with the Belgian pix - I'm hoping for something a bit more radical but thanks anyway. Accidentally stayed in a hotel in Ghent, red light district round the corner unbeknownst to us. An experience nonetheless - how blokes can ogle at the 'shop' windows is beyond me. I just had a quick squint and left.... |
