I am sick of hearing about low miles, like a original GTS with 4500 miles, or even 16.000 miles.
My rant.
A word about super low miles, think about it, why so low, well the bike must have sat, for long periods, must have, or there going to say yeah I started it once a year, or so, after the cylinders were good and dry, metal on metal, no lube, see sitting is bad, dryes out everything, creates surface funk on internal parts, rings, cylinders, ETC ETC, LIKE A BARN FIND. Your going to have to rebuild everything, tank issues, fuel lines injectors, filthy hydrolyics, if they work at all, chain, sprokets, radiator corosion, 10 year coolant, old tires that look good but there 8 years old, meaning there bad as well. OH and the shocks 16 years old and never had the oil changed even. Rubber all over the bike needs to be replaced, rusty eletc cables you can't see, dryed out gaskets, funky oil, like car motor oil that should have not been used in the first place.
So yeah grab that low miler, and do what has been done to my bike 100 times.
There is 30 grand in maintenance and upgrades put in this one, AND I will put it up against any low mile promise, and they talk about how great the bike is, yet they don't ride it, BS. GO BUY IT. Wail your fixing all the sitting bike problems, my bike will be running fine, needing nothing...
That super low mileage bike might seem ok at your first look, and you think wow, think twice, now you need valve adjustment, injectors like I said several thousand in parts and maintenance..
Have fun, wail my bike is touring with no problems.
Plus mine looks like a million bucks, or pour a million bucks in that sitter, with the low miles, with no records, but go by the odometer, if it's low no worrys. RIGHT.
But I digress.
Glad I got that of my chest!

PS WHAT!!

Thanks
The Dude

So are we, but there is a lot of truth in what you say. Low mileage as in 15 year old sub 5K examples are not the golden egg. They will have good cycle parts, but anything that moves or has flexible joints will need some love and attention before you hit the starter.

I have seen the same issues too, one a few miles away from here, another stood ten years, and my blue one crated for seven years, but thrapped when first PDI...no wonder the bores/valve seals didn't stand a chance.

I think new member bimota might have a similar problem with his.

mine supposedly had 27000 kilometers on it....crap it had...
Now that my third gear is shreded i suppose it had 127000 kilometers on it Twisted Evil . with normal driwing it doesn use any oil.
It uses oil just and just then if i go ful throttle on the highway and it is reasonable that at 240 km/h it will use some oil.
It is not much though...a 300 kilometer trash with 90% of the time at 240 km/h the rest at 180 km/h, took just 0,15 litre of oil. And she took that blast with pride Twisted Evil
So i give you wright dude...the bikes must be riden or they will get ill and to cure the "many years sitting bike" one will need a lot of money Cool .

I still haven't found anyone local who has one to ride around with. My bike was in the 15,000 mile range and I haven't gone all that much farther. If you think about the price you had to pay when they were new and what sort of buyer might get one it seems logical to me eventually they get old and sore and deal it off. Or in the case of the one I got the guy wasn't all that old just got sore. Mine seems to work pretty reliably without changing any rubber pieces. I am sure if the thing was run in the winter in salty spray and other chemicals they use on the road surfaces things would me a headache but I don't think the original purchasers would do that except as an exception, at least around here.

Hate to say this guys but your GTS is extremely easy to 'massage', mileage wise so take care. Read the discs, footrests, rims, switchgear, grips etc, and you will get a better idea of genuine mileage. This is going to get more important as the values increase, which they will continue to do. Zip bank interest for savers and a bike you can actually use to go places allied to their bonkers initial cost ensure this will happen. Allied to their superior ride quality and design innovation/quirky looks of course.
What grieves me is the fact that if someone offered you a '93 small car with 50,000 miles up it - happy days, what a gem. A bike, which has had a tiny percentage of the workload, and was engineered to far more accurate tolerances, and had it's oil changed 3 times as often, is downvalued. A thorough service history beats simple low miles any day IMO.
