Just spent 5 days touring the SW of Ireland - put it on your list guys, truly wonderful people and place. Roads can be 'changeable' to say the least but the inherent stability and compliant suspension of the GTS made it all fun. 44mpg, 1000 miles to 500ml oil. Not super high speed stuff as some routes were like a long distance Cat & Fiddle type. Folk say the scenery is great but guiltily I chose road pleasure instead. I've tried doing both but it hurts...
Learn, however from our first mistake - tried to work all day, pack, travel 170 miles in the dark along stunning roads to Fishguard. If only night vision was an option - next to no cops or caravans. Then take advantage of the Stena £1 a pint Murphy's offer. Then sleep/fart/cough for an hour, get off the ferry then travel to Cork. I thought you could only nod off in a car, but no. Met up with Irish pals, fix a BMW (typical) then travel to Kenmare. Shower, lift from the landlord and then paint Kenmare red till 3.30 am. I guess this would have been a doddle when I was 25....
As all 4 of us are getting on a bit the late nights got earlier as the week progressed, and I only proposed marriage to 3 ladies in 4 nights. I reckon now I'm fat and old as well as ugly they feel sorry for me. It's great! Hope they don't pay surprise visits as the wife may not share my enthusiasm.
So, get yourselves over there - no speed cameras and you will discover 'having the craick' as they say. |
