I was hoping to get some opinions.

Bike I am looking got knocked over in a parking lot. Besides the damage to the fairing and mirror on one side, the dash was cracked. Because of this, the Yamaha dealer who did the repair work said that the dash was no longer watertight and compromised so recommended replacing the whole assembly which included the gauges. So, the bike doesn't now doesn't have the original odometer.

My question is, would this scare you away from purchasing the bike? Since the GTS is a collector bike, would you hesitate purchasing it if you were a collector because of the replacement dash (especially becaus eof the odometer). I ask because folks gets awfully hesitant when the original odometer on a bike is no longer on it.

Thanks.

Hey great to hear from you again.
.
How much cash are you willing to spend?
That's the number one question..

So your next post should say something like this,

Hey guys I am looking to buy a GTS and I have x amount of dollers to spend, what can I get, for that much money.

Chances are we know the bike your looking at.

Then we have a place to start.

Thanks Dude,

Everything has been repaired on the bike - it fell on it's left side - fairings, mirror. The dash was replaced as part of the repairs.

I am looking to spend no more than $5K. The bike is up in the Bay area. A 1994 model.

Found it. The one with 42K miles on it, right?

Just remembered. I found the "for sale" notice right here on the forums - http://www.gtsclub.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1827

I have spoken to the guy selling it. Seems like a real nice guy and on the up and up. Just concerned about if I ever have to sell the bike how the switched out odometer will be perceived.

OK here's the deal, my GTS is near mint, has 102K, and if I switched the odometer to one that read 45k, anyone would believe it.

Two options here. Get the original damaged speedo off the dealer, if he hasn't ebayed it already. Then get him to enter a documented speedo change on your service record and book. Show this to a future prospective buyer and pass on the speedo with the bike.
Plan B - I only know this because my GTS is a French import, and while changing the speedo for a mph one I zero'd the odometer. I have noted the mileage already on the bike btw. I don't intend ever selling it but would point this out to any new owner/my kids when they inherit it! You can, therefore, transfer the old mileage reading the same way, clean hands and a feeler gauge is all you need. If you aren't mechanically minded ask your friendly used car dealer.....only joking.
