Mine went through a phase of that when I first got it, make sure you don''t touch the throttle when you first push the starter button, not even a tiny bit, until the engine fires.
if it won't start leave it a few minutes before trying again.
Mine only does it if I have left it standing for a few weeks I think it sulks....yours is probably upset at being sold. try talking to her nicely if you raise your voice or swear it will never start. |

In my ears it sounds a lot like the anti-theft device..
When you turn the key, check for the lights on the dash!
Probably the order in which they light, give an indication!!
With a starting problem like yours, it might help to switch off and gently turn the key again!!
I've never experienced this problem myself, but head (read) about it on the American listserverve forum.
Just my 2c..

Yes. The contact on the key can be the solution. Mine sometimes wont start even with a strong battery output, but if I turn the key off and then turn it on again, it will start inmediately. Something to do with a loose contact inside, I guess. This tip notwithstanding, follow Daf´s advice: do NOT touch the throttle when hot-starting the bike. _________________ Ride on the road. Road limits can be recognised by the sudden appearance of trees, walls, rocks, sky or buildings. It is much harder to ride there. |

| Check your idle speed also. If set too low on a warm engine I've heard it cause that problem and your bike sounds like it has been sitting. |

Don't check your idle speedo... It will be zero
Check the revcounter. With idling engine it should be 950 - 1050 rpm.
Adjustment is easy: turn the adjuster screw (located on the right side of the motorcycle, visible trhough a hole in the chassis beneath the seat) in to increase, out to decrease the rpm.

Hey I had a bike that did that, not a GTS, anyway turned out it was a coil,
except it would die I did not have to turn it off, but after it cooled would start, sounds like the other guys may be right, pm 24 he know a heck of a lot, also contact cleaner at conections such as wire plugs, and that big one under the tank, helped me with some isues.
Good luck

...and the answer was
FUEL PUMP
Just got an email from Rob aka bimota. I do remember saying the single most likely fault with a low mileage GTS will be the fuel pump. I have seen this numerous times (four) now, but I have never had the engine run and then stop sometime later, as usually the fuel pump stall causes the fuse to blow within the first attempts to start. _________________ The MicroSquirts are working on the GTS1000 and Thunderace EFI project |
